Riding Camp at Rockleigh

The mission of the Riding Camp at Rockleigh Equestrian Centre is to provide an enriching, healthy, educational experience for children of lower socio-economic backgrounds. The summer program will focus on all aspects of horsemanship to develop responsibility, patience, compassion, self-esteem, and a strong work ethic.

In addition, campers will receive tutoring in reading, swimming instruction, an art program, and team-building activities. Follow-up support is provided throughout the academic year.

There will be two 3-week sessions with a maximum of ten campers per session. Boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 12, with a specified socio-economic need, who have maintained a B average or better and an 80% or better attendance in the current school year are eligible. Campers apply by submitting a one-page, handwritten essay explaining why they would like to attend The Riding Camp at Rockleigh Equestrian Centre.

Tuition is FREE. The camp is supported by fund-raising efforts.

Transportation is provided at no charge to campers as part of the camp experience. A counselor accompanies the children on the bus ride to and from camp daily. Breakfast, lunch and snack are included at no cost to the camper.

Our Camp Director is Jacole Galperin. She is a certified teacher and riding instructor with over 15 years of experience. The camp also has an assistant director, three senior counselors, an art therapist, an Elementary School reading specialist, and a certified W.S.I. CPR trained lifeguard.
