Oswaldo Montes hails originally from Guadalajara Mexico, where his love for horses started at an early age. As a child, he grew up volunteering his free time at local barns, fostering his natural horsemanship skills. He moved to the United States in 2000 in order to pursue his career in the equestrian field.
In the past fifteen years, Oswaldo has groomed for multiple international-caliber FEI riders. Notably, he managed the grand prix jumper string for Olympic gold medalist Laura Kraut for over three years, travelling to horse shows throughout the US and abroad. While working for Laura Kraut he met his wife Lucia Rittenhouse-Montes. Together, they moved to her hometown in Bath, Maine to run a ten-acre estate and start a sales and training business as a team.
In Maine, Oswaldo further honed his training skills by working hand in hand with Kevin Crane, a renowned natural horseman who focuses on kind and gentle communication between horse and handler. Oswaldo nurtured their young horses, teaching them patience and developing the ground manners they needed for Lucia to build their success in the show ring. Oswaldo’s friends and colleagues call him the “horse whisperer” and his kind and quiet nature brings out the best qualities in all the horses at Rockleigh.
